WNBA Playoffs ATTENDANCE & Ratings CRASH & BURN without Caitlin Clark
Since Caitlyn Clark is no longer in the playoffs, the ratings and attendance have dropped. Some fans are saying, “You’re not real WNBA fans.” Well, I’m a fan of Caitlyn Clark and the Indiana Fever, period. I’ll spend my time watching what I enjoy, and I’m not interested in other teams. It’s called being a consumer, and I’m not going to apologize for that.
The Liberty-Aces game drew 929,000 viewers on ABC, which is decent for the WNBA, but that’s down almost 50% from last Sunday when Caitlyn Clark played. The Sun-Lynx game only brought in 650,000 viewers.
Attendance? The Sun game had just 8,500 fans—less than half of Target Center’s capacity. Clark sold that arena out twice this season. Meanwhile, the Liberty-Aces game at Barclays Center had 14,015 fans, but it gets worse.
Attendance is down. The Sun game had 8,500 fans in the stands, which is less than half the capacity of the Target Center in Minneapolis. Meanwhile, Caitlyn Clark sold out that arena twice this season. Just saying. The Liberty-Aces game at Barclays Center did better with 14,015 fans, but it still didn’t sell out.
This was supposed to be one of the most anticipated playoff series of the season, and they couldn’t fill the seats. According to ESPN, they didn’t even hit 75% capacity. Now, some people are saying it’s because they went up against the NFL, but that didn’t stop Caitlyn Clark and the Fever from pulling in almost 2 million viewers the week before. Come on, that’s hilarious.
Last Wednesday night, Clark’s game drew 2.54 million viewers, and the game last Sunday pulled in 1.84 million. Anybody else see the difference? Because I sure do.
Fans are weighing in, and it’s exactly what you’d expect. The WNBA is crying racism, but honestly, do they want to go back to flying on Spirit Airlines? I expected the ratings to drop, but the attendance drop is even more shocking. The league can push whatever narrative they want, but the fans are here for Clark. Once her game is over, I’m back to watching football.
