The Married At First Sight Experts Should Have Been Doing This All Season (It Would Have Saved More Marriages)
Married At First Sight season 17 is almost over, and so far, it seems like the experts may have failed to match any couples that have staying power. Relationship experts Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Pastor Calvin “Cal” Roberson, and Dr. Pia Holec matched a total of six couples this season. However, three of the couples have already broken up, and the remaining three aren’t looking much better.
The long-running dating series doesn’t have a good track record. Since premiering in 2014, the show has been marrying strangers paired together by a group of relationship experts who are also there to help the couples work through any issues. Though the shows had some success stories, like Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner from season 1, they usually break up. By the looks of Married At First Sight season 17, which is currently airing, the track record of the relationship experts hasn’t improved.
The Experts Have Gotten A Lot Wrong In Season 17
Married At First Sight season 17’s relationship experts made numerous mistakes when matching the couples. They matched up couples with insurmountable religious differences and very different value systems (via Lifetime.) With almost every couple, they failed to set up people who were even attracted to each other. The experts’ biggest fail centers around matching Michael Shiakallis up with a runaway bride.
The Experts Have Not Been Getting Through To The Couples
In addition to matching the couples together, the Married At First Sight season 17 relationship experts are also there to guide the couples through the trials and tribulations of marriage. However, the experts haven’t done a great job of helping each of the couples get through difficult times. They weren’t able to stop Orion Martzloff and Lauren Goodger from breaking up during their honeymoon, nor were they able to keep Cameron Frazer and Clare Kerr from breaking up one month into the marriage.
The Experts Should Team Up For Therapy Sessions More
During the latest episode of Married At First Sight, Pastor Cal and Dr. Pepper had a joint counseling session with Austin and Becca of season 17. Though it was an emotional session, having two counselors there could be useful, considering the one-on-two sessions haven’t been working for the couples. The couples could benefit from intensive sessions with two or more therapists so that more perspectives could be looked at. Things aren’t looking good for the remaining three couples, and if the experts don’t do something quickly, the entire Married at First Sight season will be a fail.
