NCIS Star Shares Excitement For Tony & Ziva Spin-Off; Teases More Surprises to Come

NCIS is expanding with another new spin-off featuring fan-favorite characters Tony DiNosso and Ziva David, and Michael Weatherly has been teasing even more surprises to come. Announced last week, fans were excited to discover that in addition to the upcoming “Young Gibbs” prequel series, NCIS Origins, they will also finally get to see Tony and Ziva reunited on screen in their own series.

The spinoff, which will reportedly be titled NCIS: Europe, will see Weatherly and Cote de Pablo reprising their roles as Tony and Ziva, respectively. It is a moment that fans have been waiting for since the couple’s off-screen reunion and will be the first time the pair have shared screen time in a decade. After having been a significant part of the main NCIS series for several seasons, their return is certain to deliver a strong response from the crime franchise’s dedicated fandom.

Now Weatherly has once again been stoking fans with new comments on his X/Twitter account in response to two GIF images shared by a fan. He wrote:

NCIS has a great world to explore… And I cannot wait to be working with so many amazing people on this project. We will make it the very best it can be!

When then asked what he was looking forward to most about the new spin-off, Weatherly decided to send fans into a whirlwind of speculation with his response. He added:

Probably seeing [what] a Tony/Ziva offspring looks like? And then working with John McNamara and team. And btw- there are MORE surprises coming very soon! Hahahaha! Aha!

NCIS: Europe Finally Pays Off a Decade of Patience For Fans

Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo as Tony and Ziva in NCIS

With a ten-episode season written by John McNamara, known for his work on The Magicians and Trumbo, NCIS: Europe will follow Tony and Ziva as they go on the run across Europe with their daughter, Tali. The story will reportedly pick up after the events that saw the pair being reunited in Paris, where they have spent time raising Tali together until their family life is disrupted when Tony’s security company comes under attack, and they are forced to take off across the continent as they try to uncover the culprit and get back the happy life they seemed to have found.

Weatherly’s recent teasing, which followed his recent return to the role in a special NCIS episode, has certainly captured the attention of fans, but they will still have a bit of a wait to see the story playing out on Paramount+. Filming on the series is expected to begin later this year, meaning that NCIS: Europe will most likely air sometime in 2025. In the meantime, Mark Harmon will also be returning to the world of NCIS as the narrator of the Gibbs-focused prequel, NCIS: Origins, which is set to premiere in September 2024.
