NCIS showrunner teases original series could set up Europe-set spinoff with new Michael Weatherly-starring episode
The showrunner teased that the spinoff to the drama will take place in Europe.
TV Line talked to showrunners from numerous network shows about their futures and what fans can expect.
Most fans asked about Chicago Fire or Fire Country, but one fan wanted to know the fate of the NCIS spinoff.
“What’s happening with the Tony and Ziva series?” a fan named Elaine asked.
The outlet said that production on the spinoff begins this summer in Budapest, Hungary.
However, they teased that an episode of Season 22 of NCIS might “tee-up” the Paramount+ series.
“Let’s put it this way: I would love to do that,” co-showrunner Steven D. Binder told TV Line.
“And I have a feeling Michael [Weatherly] would be up for anything like that. I’m open to any ideas anybody has. They are totally welcome to throw them at me.”
Michael Weatherly played special agent Anthony DiNozzo on the CBS show from 2003 to 2016.
He reprised his role in 2024 after making a cameo appearance on the flagship show.
Now he is coming back for the Tony & Ziva spinoff with his on-screen love, Ziva David, played by Cote DePablo.
FAMILY FIRST
Earlier this week, Michael, 55, teased more of what fans can expect from Tony & Ziva.
The new series will pick up with the couple raising their daughter, Tali, in Europe.

Tony now runs a security company that gets attacked.
He and his family head out on a mission in Europe to find out who is after them.
UPPING THE ANTE-CIPATION
Michael recently answered a bunch of burning questions from fans on TikTok.
He said that the spinoff will “up the stakes” from what the fans are used to.
“It’s 10 episodes of one long story,” Michael said, adding that it’s almost like a 10-hour movie.
“Limited series is what they call it, I guess, but it really allows you to explore the character arc with each episode being a reset.”
Each episode will have its own open-and-shut storyline.
“I think [it] is going to bring a lot more depth to the characterization and to the relationships and we’re going to be able to do not as much recaps and exposition,” Michael shared.
However, he compared the action in the new series to that of a James Bond movie.
NCIS aired its Season 21 finale earlier this month, but the series typically airs on Mondays at 9 pm on CBS.
