Married At First Sight Season 18 Already Has A Scandal (How It Will Affect The Season)
Married at First Sight season 18 hasn’t even premiered yet and there is already a scandal that could affect the franchise. Married at First Sight season 17 aired from mid-October 2023 to late April 2024, making it the longest season in the franchise. Not only was it the longest, but it also had the most contentious cast in MAFS history. What’s more, all the couples from season 17 failed. Only one couple, Becca Haley and Austin Reed said yes to each other on Decision Day, but they broke up the very next day and never reconciled.
The season 17 cast was contentious because all but one couple took part in a failed group dupe. They endeavored and conspired amongst each other to present themselves in a positive light when they were in front of the cameras so as not to be judged harshly or get a negative edit. This plan backfired because the couples built resentment towards their partners and each other since they couldn’t be their authentic selves when the cameras were around. With season 18 looming, fans have high hopes for the upcoming season, but one particular cast member could cast a negative shadow.
One MAFS Season 18 Cast Member Made Troubling Statements
Since Lifetime‘s Married at First Sight season 17 ended, there have been no official trailers released for season 18. However, at the end of the finale episode of season 17, a sneak peek was shown. A different sneak peek was also shown at the end of the second Reunion episode of season 17. In neither trailer were anyone’s identities given. There were only three cast members whose faces were even shown. What viewers could hear in the trailers, however, were the cast members’ voices.
One particular cast member had a very memorable voice, and it could be heard in two separate scenes that depicted drama. In the first, this mystery male cast member got up angrily from the table he was sitting at with his assumed wife and told her something very aggressive.
“You want your motherf***ing space I will give it to you.”
The disrespectful and ornery way that this cast member spoke to his wife does not seem like it could bode well at all in any marriage. This means the experts cast someone with anger issues and an inability to handle situations with care, control, and emotional intelligence. It’s unclear the context in which this sentence pertained, but nonetheless, it is not a good way for a husband to speak to their wife.
In another scene, seemingly later in the season, the voice of the same mystery male cast member could be heard addressing the cameras in a similar fashion. They sounded fed up once again as they unleashed their outburst.
“I’m not everybody cup of tea but I’m somebody Hennessy and Coke and in four weeks there ain’t gonna be no marriage.”
It’s clear that the cast member in question from the Married at First Sight season 18 trailer has issues dealing with how they handle the challenging eight-week-long experience.
This ornery MAFS season 18 cast member was chosen by the show’s panel of “experts,” Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Dr. Pia Holec, and Pastor Cal Roberson, in conjunction with the production team. The three experts have the responsibility of looking at the available pool of candidates for the show and deciding not only if the individuals are people ready to be matched but also which candidates would make a strong connection and couple. They have to take into consideration each applicant’s non-negotiables, appearance preferences, value systems, and cultural background when matching people.
The reason for this hot-headed cast member being chosen also lies with the MAFS production team. The production team is who makes the announcements and does the leg work to find applicants in each city. Furthermore, they scour dating platforms to find people who they think possess TV quality and an appeal on the platforms.
It’s unclear what process was used with the mystery male cast member, but it’s clear they let an unhinged person slip through the process and onto the show.
This ornery cast member has the potential to damage the show’s reputation even further than the show has already damaged itself. By casting someone with anger and communication issues, the season is being set up to be judged harshly by viewers. In the past, there have been several cast members, like Chris Williams, Ryan DeNino, and David Norton, who were shady characters with inflammatory tendencies, and their behavior damaged the show’s credibility and entertainment value.
Given the failure of the last few Married at First Sight seasons, season 18 needed to come correct with all of its casting choices — and it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. The season 18 cast member in question has the potential to cause his wife to say no on Decision Day, which would count as a failure.
This person also has the potential to make viewers judge the show negatively as it’s coming off of several seasons that were judged negatively, and the show needs a win.
