Married At First Sight Season 17: Are Becca Haley & Austin Reed Still Together?
Becca Haley and Austin Reed from Married at First Sight season 17 had the potential to make their marriage work. The photographer and her business expert beau were two of the ten cast members in MAFS’ Denver, Colorado, season. Married at First Sight season 17 featured a lot of drama and a major hook, as the trailer implied one of the brides would get cold feet before her wedding, leaving the groom jilted at the altar. And that did happen to Michael Shiakallis before he was rematched with Chloe Brown.
Like the previous seasons, Married at First Sight season 17 featured some of the most appealing stories from Denver. One such journey is that of Becca and Austin, who looked promising from their debut episode. Austin seemed very serious about the idea of marriage. Similarly, Becca gave the audience hope with her playful nature and innocent personality. Even the show’s experts believed that Becca and Austin had the most potential, as their wildly different approaches toward life made them more compatible than everyone else. Dr. Pia Holec felt the two would bring their best sides out of each other.
Becca Opened Up To Austin About Her Medical Condition
The biggest issue early on in Austin and Becca’s potential future is Becca’s medical condition. The young photographer has a spine-related autoimmune disorder that halted her love life since she was barely nineteen. Initially, she downplayed her medical issues in front of Austin, hoping for the most optimal outcome. While viewers were worried that her actions might impact her relationship, Becca eventually surprised everyone by opening up about her pain to her partner. She revealed her full diagnosis to Austin, which brought them closer. The couple shared a warm moment and moved on stronger.
Becca & Austin Had Communication Breakdowns
Becca and Austin’s problems only started to show when Austin didn’t want to move at the fast intimacy pace that Becca did.
She grew resentment and continuously pressured him to engage more with her. From there, things spiraled as Austin felt like Becca did not let him speak his mind and thought she was making him look bad. That caused Becca to call Austin “dismissive” and “combative” during a therapy session with experts Dr. Pepper Schwartz and Pastor Cal Roberson (via Lifetime.)
Between the sexual component not happening and each feeling like the other wasn’t fostering a good space for communication, the pair was doomed. Becca also formed a close relationship with four of the five Married at First Sight season 17 women, which turned into a negative girl clique underscoring how they felt injustices from their husbands. Despite the glaring issues, Becca and Austin ended up saying yes to each other on Decision Day to find out if things would be different in the real world.
Did Becca & Austin Get Divorced In MAFS Season 14?
After saying yes on Decision Day, it took them less than a day to break up. The night following their decision to stay together, Austin went out with his cast mate Brennan Shoykhet and one of the female producers. However, he lied to Becca about going out with them and was immediately caught and called out in front of the whole MAFS season 17 group. Becca ended the marriage then and there.
Becca and Austin had the most promise in Married at First Sight season 17 before Michael and Chloe got married. They had a lot of affection for one another and did try their best to understand each other and make the marriage work. In the end, their incompatible sexual paces and inability to make the other feel heard are what led to their downfall. At the Reunion, Austin claimed to have really wanted the marriage with Becca, and Becca said she would need to wait a few years before jumping into even a friendship with Austin.
Becca and Austin are on social media. Becca is more focused on her photography business, and friendships with the four Married at First Sight season 17 women. She has not showcased any new relationships on her Instagram. Austin’s Instagram is private, and it’s hard to tell if he is now in a relationship. There was speculation on the show about him possibly dating his roommate, but there is no evidence to support that. Austin did not get his white picket fence life with Becca, and Becca did not get what she wanted either.
