Mariska Hargitay, Peter Morgan, Lulu Wang to Receive Special Honors at Gotham TV Awards (TV News Roundup)
The Gotham Film & Media Institute has unveiled the three tribute recipients to be honored at the Gotham TV Awards. Mariska Hargitay will receive the Anniversary Tribute for “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” Peter Morgan will receive the Creator Tribute for “The Crown” and Lulu Wang will receive the Spotlight Tribute for “Expats.” The tributes will be presented during the inaugural ceremony on June 4 at Cipriani 25 in New York City.
“In launching the 2024 Gotham TV Awards, we’re proud to carry on a longstanding Gotham Awards tradition in honoring iconic artists and creators who have enriched the landscape and pushed the boundaries of TV, making an indelible impact on the medium,” said Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of The Gotham Institute. “Lulu Wang and Peter Morgan have crafted profound and ambitious shows that capture the artistic breadth of television while Mariska Hargitay has delivered one of the most iconic performances in the history of TV.”

FIRST LOOKS/TRAILERS
Netflix has released the trailer for “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” which will be available to stream on June 20.
The show will follow the 2023 to 2024 Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders through their audition process, training camp and the NFL season. “From Emmy Award-winning director Greg Whiteley and the team behind Cheer and Last Chance U, the seven-episode series will give viewers unfiltered access into this iconic team and franchise,” reads the official logline. “The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders open their doors to document the personal stories behind the uniforms — revealing the drive, hustle, and drama among the cheerleaders and coaches. For many, it’s a dream to make the team — but that’s only just the beginning.”
Adam Leibowitz, Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Ross M. Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans all serve as executive producers.

Apple TV+ has posted the trailer for “Camp Snoopy,” the latest Peanuts series for the streamer. “Camp Snoopy,” which premieres on Friday, June 14, centers on what happens when “Snoopy and the Beagle Scouts set off to immerse themselves in nature and the Great Outdoors to earn their badges, with the Beagle Scout Manual as their guide. Meanwhile, Charlie Brown and friends enjoy their summer at Camp Spring Lake, crossing paths with Snoopy as they experience hiking, swimming, sitting around camp-fires and everything summer camp and the outdoors have to offer.”
Peanuts and WildBrain are behind the series, which is directed by Rob Boutilier (“The Snoopy Show,” “Snoopy in Space”). Executive producers are Craig Schulz, Paige Braddock, Rob Boutilier, Josh Scherba, Stephanie Betts and Logan McPherson.
STARZ has announced its limited series “Three Women” will premiere on September 13 at midnight on the STARZ app. It will also debut on STARZ at 10:00 p.m. ET.
The series is based on the book of the same name by Lisa Taddeo and follows women who are on a journey to overturn their lives. It stars Shailene Woodley, Betty Gilpin, DeWanda Wise, Gabrielle Creevy, Blair Underwood, Jason Ralph and John Patrick Amedori.
Laura Eason (“The Loudest Voice,” “House of Cards”) is the series showrunner, Taddeo serves as the creator and executive producer, along with Kathy Ciric and Emmy Rossum who also serves as the series EPs.

CASTINGS
Rome Flynn has been cast as a recurring guest star in the upcoming fourth season of “Godfather of Harlem.” Flynn will portray Frank Lucas, a country boy from North Carolina who ventured to Harlem and, after initial friction with gangster Bumpy Johnson, eventually rose to become Bumpy’s fierce defender and right-hand man.
Denzel Washington portrayed Lucas in the 2007 film “American Gangster.” The TV series follows Lucas’ story 10 years before the movie. The upcoming season of “Godfather of Harlem” will also see the return of Ilfenesh Hadera, Lucy Fry, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, Erik LaRay Harvey and more.

Johnson (Whitaker) continues his bloody war for control of Harlem against New York’s Mafia families in the fourth season. After Malcolm X’s (Jason Alan Carvell) death, Johnson must also grapple with his daughter Elise’s (Crowe-Legacy) involvement with the Black Panthers.
Produced by ABC Signature, the series is executive produced by Chris Brancato, Paul Eckstein, Forest Whitaker, Nina Yang Bongiovi, James Acheson, Markuann Smith and Ray Quinlan. John Stamos will guest star in the second season of “UnPrisoned,” which premieres on Hulu July 17.
Stamos will take on the recurring role of Murphy, a best-selling writer and a self-titled “family radical healing coach.” Stamos joins a cast of previously announced guest stars including Oliver Hudson, Jamie Chung, Brandee Evans and Brenda Strong.
“UnPrisoned” stars Kerry Washington, Delroy Lindo, Marque Richardson, Jordyn McIntosh, Faly Rakotohavana and Jee Young Han.
PROGRAMMING
Culinary media company Tastemade has unveiled its new original show “Kitchen Glow Up” with host Ellen Marie Bennett. The kitchen lifestyle series follows Bennett as she helps families optimize their cooking spaces to best fit their needs as homeowners. The first two episodes will premiere on May 28 on the Tastemade streaming channel.

Acorn TV and ZDF have ordered a third season of the mystery drama series “The Chelsea Detective.” Production is currently underway in London.
According to an official logline, the new season dives “once more into the murky crimes of glamorous Chelsea including the tragic death of a 2000s pop star, the impenetrable world of the US Embassy, the splendor of Kew Gardens, a classical music academy and a climate scientist found dead in a supercar.”

The CW will once again be the exclusive broadcast partner of the “2024 Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl.” The game airs live from Arizona Stadium in Tucson on Dec. 28 at 4:30 p.m. ET.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Southeast chapter will bestow its Board of Governors’ Award to digital broadcast network entrepreneur Jonathan Katz at its awards ceremony June 15. The ceremony, which will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the NATAS Southeast Chapter’s Emmy awards, will take place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Buckhead in Atlanta.
The Governors’ Award recognizes outstanding and unique accomplishments and achievements by individuals, organizations or companies in the arts, sciences or management of television. Katz recently founded Atlanta-based Free TV Networks, a new broadcast-driven company with a portfolio of national ad-supported over-the-air (OTA) and free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels that capitalize on the resurgence of OTA viewing and the rapid growth in ad-supported streaming channels. He also founded the Katz Networks, a digital over-the-air networks company that was acquired by the E.W. Scripps Company in 2017 and combined with Ion Media in 2021.

Created in 2021, the “Free Movie Weekend” was meant to help local cinemas and encourage audiences to return to the theater in light of the COVID-19 shutdowns. The event coincides with Pluto TV’s “Summer of Cinema,” which launches Jine 1 as a tentpole programming initiative rolling out titles each month spanning action, drama, comedy, sci-fi and more.

Hulu has partnered with Santa Monica’s Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows for its Poolside Cinema Series from June 2 to Sept 1. Hulu will curate a diverse selection of films as part if the “Hulu Has Movies” screenings. Seatings are complimentary for hotel guests and a $45 for visitors (which includes admission, free popcorn and a pre-fixe dinner menu). The event opens on June 2 at the Miramar Pool with the Andy Samberg romantic comedy/ Hulu original “Palm Springs.”

The African American Film Critics Association and Better Brothers will hold their annual Pride Month luncheon June 1 in celebration of film and television that enhances visibility for LGBTQ communities.
At this year’s event, AAFCA will honor the Paramount Plus and Showtime limited series “Fellow Travelers” for its depiction of Gay life and its inclusion of Black LGBTQ characters and storylines.
“In the spirit of Pride, AAFCA is thrilled to recognize ‘Fellow Travelers,’” said AAFCA president Gil Robertson. “We’re honored to host a luncheon celebrating the co-stars Jelani Alladin and Noah Ricketts, alongside showrunner Ron Nyswaner.”
AAFCA will also host its fifth annual Black Music Month celebration June 8 at the Grammy Museum, which will include a screening of “Little Richard: I Am Everything.”
