MAFS: Clare Breaks Down Over Finding ‘the One’ and the ‘Scary’ Realization She’s Marrying a Stranger

Married at First Sight‘s Clare is finally ready to let go of all of her self-doubts.

In PEOPLE’s exclusive sneak peek at this week’s episode of the Lifetime series, Clare and her family share a tender moment in the bridal fitting room as she searches for gowns. When she emerges in a fitted dress with intricate stitching, her sisters Cat and Chrissy let out sounds of excitement.

“It’s beautiful,” Cat says. “I do really love that.”

“You look so stunning,” Chrissy agrees, adding, “You look unreal.”

Looking at herself in the mirror, Clare, 27, then declares: “This is the one.”

Her teary-eyed mother, Julie, also weighs in, calling her daughter “so beautiful.”

“It’s hard to believe,” she adds of Clare preparing to say “I do.”

The moment prompts Clare to realize just how far she’s come on her journey to the altar.

“You guys know I’ve had issues with self-image, and just no one has wanted to commit to me. Nobody has ever been sure of me,” she admits. “They’ve been like, ‘Yeah, I like this and that about you. But I don’t see myself with you long term,’ and I feel like all the praying I’ve done, it’s all led me here. It’s a lot.”

As Clare fights back tears, Chrissy reassures her sister that she’s found “the one,” referring to her fiancé Cameron, whom Clare has never met.

“I just feel very comfortable in my skin, and it took me a while to get here,” Clare continues through her tears. “But also the fact that I’ll be walking down this [aisle] and meeting somebody that I don’t know is very scary. But I’m here, and I’m ready to share that with someone else. For sure.”

“You’ll bring out the best in whoever it is, and he’ll bring out the best in you,” Julie reassures.

While season 17 of Married at First Sight largely sticks to the tried-and-true formula of matching up singles and having them wed sight unseen before embarking on a honeymoon and move in together, the show promises a major twist this time — only four of the five couples will walk away married, leaving viewers wondering what happens with groom Michael who is jilted at the altar?

The other season 17 couples from Denver, Colorado, include Emily and Brennan, Clare and Cameron, Becca and Austin and Lauren and Orion.

The couples this season will try different activities together to bond, including rock climbing, a NSFW Planetarium class, mezcal tasting, an aura reading, and more. At the end of the eight-week social experiment, the couples will have to make a decision about whether they want to remain married and start a future together, or get a divorce.

The beloved matchmaking series will also feature guidance from Pastor Cal and Dr. Pepper, along with Dr. Pia, who joins the show as a full-time expert. The trio will provide the couples with professional advice and support as they navigate through their love journey.
