“Authority” features one of the most calculating offenders the SVU squad has ever come across. A manipulative genius engineer contracts a plot to convince a fast food employee to assault a coworker while impersonating a police officer. He then goes on to manipulate the public into causing anti-authoritarian mayhem.
The stakes are raised for Detective Elliot Stabler when his partner, Olivia Benson, is kidnapped by the criminal. Stabler feverishly tracks down his partner. When he finds her, the subject attempts to enact a Milgrim experiment with Stabler and Benson, which sees him forced to torture his partner. Stabler is wrecked by the idea of inflicting pain upon Benson and is relieved the test is a hoax, and he is able to recover her unscathed. The level of care Stabler has for Benson is very apparent in this episode. Stabler’s skills are also undeniable as he navigates an extremely complex situation and is still able to come out on top.
