Indiana Fever’s Strong Statement on Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell

The Indiana Fever’s strong statement on Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell: In just a few short days, the Indiana Fever will begin their first WNBA playoffs since 2016. With only one game remaining in the regular season, the Fever have already locked up the sixth seed and are still awaiting their first-round opponent, which will be either the Connecticut Sun or the Las Vegas Aces.

Indiana has reached this point thanks to the strong play of All-Star guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell. Both have been lights out during the course of the season and have turned it up a notch following the Olympic break.

On Wednesday, the Fever made a post on social media highlighting the scoring threat of their backcourt duo. The reminder to WNBA fans: Indiana is the only team in the league to have two players in the top eight scoring this season—Kelsey Mitchell with 19.6 PPG and Caitlin Clark with 19.5 PPG.

The Fever’s tweet featured a smoking face emoji, emphasizing Mitchell’s leading 19.6 points per game, which ranks her seventh in the WNBA. Clark’s 19.5 points per game places her eighth. Clark also leads all rookies in scoring by a wide margin, with Chicago Sky forward Angel Reece being the next closest with 13.6 points per game.

Since the WNBA’s return from the month-long hiatus, Mitchell has scored 20 or more points in all but one game, where she scored 18. The former Ohio State star also broke her own Fever record for most points in a single season, reaching 763 on a career-high 46.7% shooting. She set the initial record of 728 points in 2023.

Indiana’s final game of the regular season will be on Thursday, September 19, against the Washington Mystics. If the Sun defeat the Sky on that same day, the Fever will face Connecticut in round one. If the Sun lose and the Aces beat the Dallas Wings, Indiana will get the defending champions.
