General Hospital Shocker: Cyrus Renault a Good Guy – Redemption Ahead?
General Hospital super-villain Cyrus Renault just had a brush with death, and it may have changed him for good. Even if he was faking it before now, he might genuinely be on the road to redemption on ABC soap opera.
General Hospital: Cyrus Renault’s Reign of Terror
When Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) first came on to the GH scene, he was ruthless and cruel. He wanted to kill mob kingpin Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and take over his territory. He pushed his drugs through Port Charles, causing a spike in overdoses.
And he nearly killed Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson). Also, he tried to make Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor) kill his mother, Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs). Plus, he put a hit on Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) at General Hospital.
Not to mention, he held Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) and her daughter, Trina Robinson (then Sydney Mikayla), hostage. His half-sister Laura Spencer Collins (Genie Francis) was his hostage also, and he almost killed her. And the list of his crimes goes on.
Then he was finally arrested and sent to a prison out West where he didn’t have any allies or leverage. But, he eventually made his way back to Pentonville, where he claimed to be religious and trying to turn his life around. Of course, it seemed too good to be true…
Mobster a New Man or Running a Scam on GH?
Most likely, the General Hospital villain’s religious act was just a scheme to get his enemies to lower their guard so he could strike. At one point, it looked like he teamed up with lady mobster Jennifer Smith (Holly Gagnier).
Jennifer is part of the Smith mob family that used to run Port Charles back in the day. She was working with someone out West to target Sonny and ultimately take over PC. Indeed, that seemed like Cyrus.
However, that plot fizzled, and Cyrus came back to Port Charles, claiming to be good. Still, it was unclear if Cyrus was genuine or not. But recently, on General Hospital, he had a heart attack. And now, his quest for redemption could very well be legit.
Near-Death Experience Changes Cyrus on General Hospital
Last we saw Cyrus, his fellow inmate “Book” (Brad Schmidt) attacked him, causing him to go into cardiac arrest. Luckily, Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) was there to help him. However, he almost died, and in his mind, Laura appeared.
She had some harsh words for Cyrus, but she also showed him some acceptance and said she could do better as his sister. Then, she hugged him. This made-up moment with Laura seems to have given him hope that they can have a real brother/sister relationship.
Soon, he’s at General Hospital and tells someone to give away all his money. Most likely, it’s his lawyer brother Martin Gray (Michael E. Knight). No doubt, almost dying profoundly affected him. Maybe he wasn’t sincere before, but he surely might be now.
However, the path to redemption won’t be easy. Just because he imagined Laura accepting him doesn’t mean she will in reality. It is going to be a long road if he wants to earn her love and trust.
And he’s going to have to prove to everyone that he’s different on General Hospital. So to do that, he might find a way to get Drew out of prison to repay him for saving his life.
So, thanks to Cyrus, Drew might be a free man soon. And the former baddie may truly want to turn over a new leaf. The shocks keep on coming on GH. Don’t miss it to see if Cyrus Renault gets redeemed on the ABC sudser.
