The Indiana Fever resumed practice today, and people are already questioning something that Chrissy Sides has done. For this one, we’re heading to Indiana.
It was reported that typically in Fever practices, the starters wear blue jerseys and the backups wear gray. One notable change in the lineup was All-Star Kelsey Mitchell wearing gray instead of blue. In her place, with a starter jersey, was forward NaLyssa Smith. Now, Mitchell has started all 26 games for the Fever this season, so the change during Monday’s practice comes as a surprise.
However, Coach Chrissy Sides hasn’t confirmed anything regarding an official lineup change once the season continues in mid-August. Fans and people are already saying, “What is she doing? Why is she trying to mess up the lineup?” Now, we’re just in practice, so it could be something where Kelsey Mitchell is maybe just playing a backup role because she’s injured or something else is going on. Who knows what Chrissy Sides has going on behind the scenes? But if Mitchell is practicing and running with the second unit, what’s really going on?
Once again, people are going to ask why Chrissy Sides is doing some of the things she does. As we all know, Kelsey Mitchell, as you’ve seen in this video and read, has started all 26 games. As we saw in the WNBA All-Star game, she is definitely a lethal scorer who needs to be on the court with Caitlyn Clark and Aliyah Boston, doing the things we know she can do.
So, whatever Chrissy Sides has going on, if she’s trying to tweak the lineup and change the rotation, and maybe have Kelsey Mitchell being a sixth woman coming off the bench, it’ll be something weird. We know Chrissy Sides is definitely going to get in the lab and start messing things up. It’s like if the Indiana Fever could win five straight games, you best believe Chrissy Sides is going to change something in that fifth game, and they’re going to wind up losing the sixth game. It’s just how she does and the things that she has going on.
So, we’re definitely going to keep our eyes on this and see how everything goes. But I’m glad to see the Indiana Fever back at practice with everybody there except for one player, Wallace, who’s right now with Australia playing basketball with that team. As for Caitlyn Clark, she’ll be playing with Team USA.
