Married at first sight

Dr. Pia Married at First Sight thinks she’s the best expert on the show, but is she really?

Dr. Pia Holec has proven herself to be the worst of the three Married at First Sight season 17 experts and she’s done more harm than good for the couples. Season 17 has had one of the lowest success rates of all time, and Dr. Pia’s influence is partially to blame. She, along with Dr. Pepper Schwartz and Pastor Cal Roberson, were tasked with not only matching the Denver hopefuls but also guiding them through the eight-week journey.

In an unprecedented situation, Michael Shiakkalis’ original bride left him at the altar, and the experts saw fit to match him again, this time with Chloe Brown. Married at First Sight season 17 also flopped in its matching, considering Orion Martzloff and Lauren Goodger split right after the honeymoon and Cameron Frazer and Clare Kerr separated on their one-month anniversary. Moreover, only Becca Haley and Austin Reed said yes to each other come Decision Day only to break up the following day. There was a lot that Dr. Pia could have done differently to improve the success of the couples.

Dr. Pia Came For Brennan

Dr. Pia seemed to have it out for Brennan Shoykhet. Instead of trying to understand him and how he functioned in his relationship with Emily Balch, Dr. Pia was combative and argumentative with him, which only served to make him angry and push him further away from Emily (via Lifetime.) Dr. Pia suggested that Brennan go to therapy, and Brennan and Emily had a contentious exchange when Brennan brought it up later.

Dr. Pia Acts Judgemental & Can’t Control Herself

Dr. Pia is highly emotional and can’t stop herself from wearing her ill feelings on her face and in her body language when she has sessions with the couples. She was visibly irritated by Orion when she sat down with him and Lauren for their divorce talk. Her disdain for Brennan was also clear in every sit-down she had with him and Emily. The other Married at First Sight experts can compartmentalize their own feelings and act nonjudgmentally, but that seems to be too much for Dr. Pia, who can’t control herself from aggression and discernment.

Dr. Pia Accused Michael & Chloe Of Being Fake

Dr. Pia also did damage in Michael and Chloe’s relationship after she accused them of being fake. Chloe especially took the accusation of inauthenticity badly and it put her in a bad headspace. She questioned Dr. Pia’s words and therapist abilities when she talked with Emily afterward. Dr. Pia should have used her session with Michael and Chloe to guide them in a good direction and ask questions aimed at bringing them closer together instead of offending her patients.

Dr. Pia Hasn’t Done Any Good For The Couples

Given Dr. Pia’s attitude and negative shadow over the couples, she has not done much good. Her credibility is low and she’s caused more problems than she helped solve anything among the Married at First Sight couples. She has showcased herself as the worst expert among the three, and should probably be replaced in seasons to come.
