I Think Married At First Sight Needs To Fire Their Panel Of Experts (They’ve Failed Too Much)
Married At First Sight season 18 is just around the corner, but I think they need to reevaluate the experts leading the charge and next season, the series should consider bringing in new help. With the upcoming season of Married At First Sight coming soon, many are revisiting the series and looking at it with a critical eye, hopeful the upcoming season will change fundamental issues that viewers have with the show. The experts, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Dr. Pia Holec, and Pastor Cal Roberson, have been working hard the last few seasons, but things haven’t gone the way they planned.
With Married At First Sight season 18 bringing in the same panel of experts who have been part of the show for the last few unsuccessful seasons, many are most critical of their help and mentorship. While the experts often struggle because of the way that MAFS participants present themselves at the beginning of the season, there are also issues with the way the experts interact with the participants throughout the season. Though they’re trying their best, after seasons of failure, it makes sense for the current panel of experts to take a step back and reevaluate what they’re doing.

Married At First Sight’s Experts Have Been Struggling
Although MAFS has been a long-running show with many successful couples who have come out of it, the last several seasons of the series have produced very few marriages that have stuck together. While viewers don’t just come to Married At First Sight to see the couples who work out, there’s an expectation that some of the matches will succeed, while others are likely to fizzle out. With no successful matches last season, the previous have had an eerily similar track record. The couples in the seasons beforehand, with less pressure and less drama, still had a tough time working.
In the last five seasons of Married At First Sight, only one couple that’s been matched up has stayed married and continued successfully in their day-to-day lives. MAFS season 16’s Chris Thielk and Nicole Woley, who got married on their season and chose to stay together on Decision Day, are still happily married and living their lives together. Otherwise, there have been no successful marriages in the last several seasons. Before them, the last successful marriage was on Married At First Sight season 12 between Bryanna Myles and Vincent Morales. The success rate has been extremely low in recent years.
MAFS Season 17’s Drama Threw The Experts For A Loop
Although the couples on Married At First Sight season 17 weren’t able to make things work romantically, they did band together to create one of the most dramatic seasons of MAFS in years. The cast members of MAFS season 17 were matched as usual, but after their weddings, many of them began to fear how they’d wind up looking on camera. Knowing that reality TV can reshape the reality of a situation in many ways, they decided that rather than looking foolish on TV because of a poor edit, they wanted to control the narrative of their relationships on screen.
It came out during the Married At First Sight season 17 reunion that the cast had manipulated their storylines to try and make themselves look good. In an attempt to minimize the fallout of whatever drama the show could make it seem like had happened in their relationships, the couples staged conversations and created their faux drama, doing their best to keep themselves from being edited poorly. When this was revealed during the reunion, the cast was remorseful, but it was such a shock to the host, experts, and producers that they genuinely felt awful for going behind their backs.
Married At First Sight’s Viewers Want To See Success
Although the Married At First Sight experts often struggle to put together matches that make it to the end of the season, the fact that they’ve had such little success in recent years has been disheartening. After seeing the MAFS season 17 cast dupe the experts into believing their fake storylines and issues, the trust that viewers have in the experts to put together solid couples who genuinely want to find love is minimal. Viewers hope to see successful marriages on the show. Though there’s a desire for drama on screen, many are hopeful that they’ll see true love, too.
New MAFS Experts Could Improve The Show
Although the current group of experts is trying their best, I feel that at the show’s core, the issue they’re facing is about the experts rather than the participants themselves. Married At First Sight should have a rotating team of experts that allows each group to take some time off after a season, ensuring they have time to rest and regroup after each Married At First Sight season. If the current experts aren’t to be fired from Married At First Sight, they at least need to bring in new perspectives to help improve the show for viewers and participants alike.
