Behind Closed Doors: The Startling Statistics that Led to the Cancellation of ‘NCIS
NCIS: Hawai’i, along with several other programs, received an unexpected blow with CBS’s announcement of its cancellation after just three seasons. Vanessa Lachey, who made history as the first female lead in the NCIS franchise, took to Instagram to express her shock and disappointment regarding the news.
Lachey revealed that she, along with many of the cast members, was blindsided by CBS’s decision. Alongside NCIS: Hawai’i, CBS also axed CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd. Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, explained that while the network aims to keep its schedule fresh and maintain momentum, tough decisions must be made based on factors like schedule cohesiveness, financials, and overall performance.
Despite a fan petition to revive the show gaining tens of thousands of signatures, Reisenbach stated that there was no chance of NCIS: Hawai’i being picked back up. The possibility of the show continuing on a streaming service was also dismissed.
However, Vanessa Lachey recently shared some startling statistics about the show’s viewership, raising questions about the rationale behind its cancellation. On her Instagram Story, she congratulated CBS on its achievements in viewership, noting that the network boasted the top four most-watched series, with 13 of the top 20 belonging to CBS. Lachey then revealed the impressive performance of NCIS: Hawai’i over the years.
In the last 35 days alone, the NCIS spinoff accumulated over 10.1 million views across four episodes. Another screenshot showcased the show’s debut, where NCIS: Hawai’i claimed the title of the “#1 new series.”

Expressing her pride in the team’s accomplishments, Lachey emphasized the show’s continued growth and success. However, following the official announcement of the cancellation, Lachey took to Instagram once more to share her thoughts. Having relocated her family to Hawaii for the role, she admitted to feeling “gutted” by the news.
In a heartfelt message, Lachey pledged her unwavering support for her cast and crew, urging industry insiders to consider hiring them in the future. She described them as “salt of the earth people,” leaving a lasting impression of dedication and loyalty despite the show’s untimely end.
