NCIS Tony & Ziva Spinoff: Michael Weatherly Corrects One Key Detail In New Video
Michael Weatherly clarifies one misconception about the upcoming NCIS Tony and Ziva spinoff. As CBS’ longest-running scripted series and TV’s most-watched drama, the NCIS franchise is looking to further expand with new spinoffs. Aside from the recently-premiered NCIS: Sydney, NCIS: Origins was also announced, which will focus on Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ earliest years in the agency. However, the expansion does not stop there, as there will also be an NCIS offshoot that will follow Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo, a fan-favorite couple from the main series.
In a brand-new Instagram post, Weatherly reveals new information about the NCIS Tony and Ziva spinoff and corrects one important detail that the initial reports got wrong. Watch his video below:

Weatherly affirms that, unlike its sibling shows, his and Cote de Pablo’s series will stream on Paramount+. He reveals that they will shoot on location in Europe, and shares that the project’s title is currently top secret. This is contrary to reports that it will be called NCIS: Europe.
What To Expect From Tony And Ziva’s NCIS Spinoff
Tony and Ziva will find themselves on the run
After almost a decade since he left the franchise, Weatherly recently returned during NCIS’ Ducky tribute episode. His cameo was brief and didn’t show him mingling with the rest of the current NCIS roster. That being said, it was apparently just the beginning of his bigger return. During his conversation with Jimmy Palmer, the “Very Special Agent” said that he was just passing through, which makes sense since he and Ziva will supposedly be on the run in the new story.
It’s currently uncertain why they are on the run, which is an interesting switch from their previous roles as federal agents on NCIS. However, to increase the stakes, Tony and Ziva will embark on this new journey with their daughter, Tali. What’s curious is if their new issue has something to do with their respective pasts. As a Mossad agent, Ziva knows full well that her history can eventually haunt her. She tried to deal with it on her own, hence why she initially faked her death. This time, however, she will have a solid ally with Tony.
If it lives beyond its debut year, it’s difficult to imagine Paramount+ not wanting to bring in as many familiar faces as possible. While it’s great for fan service, seeing the couple reunite with their former NCIS allies would also benefit the storytelling.
There are still a lot of unknowns regarding Tony and Ziva’s NCIS spinoff. Production isn’t supposed to begin until later this year. By then, it’s expected that more information about the show will be revealed. Perhaps CBS may even use NCIS season 21 as a launching pad for whatever comes for the couple. This means that both or either of them can make another cameo in the mothership series.
Will Gibbs And Other Original NCIS Characters Appear In Tony And Ziva’s Spinoff?
The new show could stage a great NCIS reunion
One of the greatest perks of its interconnected storytelling is the possibility of crossovers and cameos.
While Tony and Ziva’s spinoff will deviate from the franchise’s usual set-up as part of CBS’ broadcast plan, it is still part of the universe. One of the greatest perks of its interconnected storytelling is the possibility of crossovers and cameos, and topping that wishlist is Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Both Ziva and Tony worked closely with the former NCIS leader during their time in the agency, so it would be great to see all of them reunited again. If anything, Gibbs would be eager to help the couple, considering his guilt after failing to rescue Ziva.
Another great cameo candidate is Pauley Perrette’s forensic science whiz Abby Sciuto. Like Ziva, Tony, and Gibbs, she has already resigned from her post at NCIS. However, considering her close bond with the pair, not to mention her supposed location in the U.K., it wouldn’t be difficult to incorporate her into the spinoff’s storytelling. Finally, getting Tim McGee and even Jimmy Palmer involved would also be easy, especially after Tony’s reunion with them during NCIS’ Ducky tribute episode. Perhaps Director Vance and Special Agent Parker may even volunteer some assistance.
Understandably, it is unlikely that all the aforementioned characters will make an appearance in the first season of Tony and Ziva’s spinoff. That said, if it lives beyond its debut year, it’s difficult to imagine Paramount+ not wanting to bring in as many familiar faces as possible. While it’s great for fan service, seeing the couple reunite with their former NCIS allies would also benefit the storytelling.
