Law and Order SVU’s Mariska Hargitay teases fan-favourite return with sweet reunion clip

Law and Order SVU star Mariska Hargitay seemingly confirmed Kelli Giddish’s comeback with a behind-the-scenes peek into season 25.

Following the WGA and SAG Aftra strike lifts, production for the long-running NBC drama is back underway and expected to premiere in 2024.

With Hargitay set to make her comeback as the beloved Detective Olivia Benson, fans could also see Giddish reprise her role as Detective Amanda Rollins.

The two stars sparked major excitement as they danced to Paul Russell’s viral hit Boo Thang on Hargitay’s official Instagram account.

They were also dressed similarly to their characters as the Benson star captioned the post: “Back with my lil boo thang.” (sic).

As a result, thousands of the actress’ 2.9 million followers took to the comments with hopeful anticipation and thrill.

An excited @Miya.jm stated: “You truly don’t understand how HAPPY fans are with Kelli being back!”

As @rmoney214 begged: “Mariska PLEASE KEEP HER FOR THE WHOLE SEASON.”

@nenefavours added: “I’m so excited to see which bad decisions Rollins is about to make.”

While a thrilled @sandra_07122 exclaimed: “OMGGGGGG AHHH KELLI IS BACKKKKKKKKK…WAHOOOOOOOOO.. LETS CELEBRATE.”

@itscourt1234 agreed: “OMG THIS IS THE CUTEST VIDEO I’VE EVER SEEN, I love you both so much! Fav do back together again!!”

Fans will recall the emotional moment Rollins decided to hand in her badge and gun midway through season 24.

After she and Benson had too many glasses of boxed wine Rollins told her that she intends on leaving the SVU to take on a teaching job at Fordham.

Although Benson was heartbroken, she supported her friend and attended her wedding to Dominick Carisi, Jr (played by Peter Scanavino).

Despite her exit, Kelli returned for a cameo in the season finale, which was part of a crossover with Law & Order and Law & Order: Organized Crime.

In the episode, Rollins was pregnant and expecting her first child, much like the actress was in real life.

When her exit was announced in 2022, Kelli told fans: “Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the Law & Order family for the last 12 years.

“There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. She’s grown and changed, and I have as well.

I started on this show when I was in my late 20s and I’m grateful I got to spend so many of my adult years with Rollins in my life.”
