While the announcement for Jeopardy!‘s new streaming spinoff came just days ago, fans are already upset. Not only do some feel like it is dumbing down the content, but now the Pop Culture spinoff is having glaring technical difficulties.
Jeopardy! Pop Culture
Although some fans are happy to see Jeopardy! diversifying and broadening their reach, others think the new pop culture spinoff is blasphemy. Undoubtedly, it is a turn from the traditional sixty-year-old game show, but it has plenty of nods to the original. Soon the new series promises to stream on Amazon Prime Video making it the first Jeopardy show offered worldwide. Furthermore, it promises upbeat topics from movies, sports, TV shows, music, and glamorous Hollywood references. While competing, contestants will be in groups of three instead of standing alone to fight for a “grand prize and ultimate bragging rights.” Some fans are stoked to see this spinoff:
- “I have been waiting for this my whole life.”
- “Now THIS is a show I can win.”
Not Everyone Is Impressed
However, not everyone is excited about Jeopardy! Pop Culture. Some believe it is a watered-down version of the original. Additionally, others became quickly disgruntled when encountering a glitch from the get-go. Although the Jeopardy team is known for its commendable smarts, it had a bit of technical difficulties straight out of the gate. On Wednesday, the official Instagram page, a post encourages fans to enter to be a contestant. Captioning: “It’s giving … your time to shine ✨ Grab two friends and take the #PopCultureJeopardy! Anytime Test with the link in bio. #Jeopardy!”
Within the post are details about signing up for a three-person team for the pop culture tournament. This is an opportunity for players to interact in honor of the pop culture spinoff release. Although the post includes a picture explaining the details about how to apply, the link to their website came with technical errors. Undeniably, if anyone was on the fence about the game, this knocked them right over to the “dislike” category. Since it was a struggle to use the website, fans were quick to blast their frustrations in the comments.
Jeopardy! Spinoff Already Upsets Fans With Technical Difficulties
While some people were aware right away there was a glitch, others diligently tried to get their team entry with the angry realization it wasn’t working after the fact.
- “What’s a girl got to do to get permission to access?”
- “So no one else can actually click on Create a New Team, right? I’ve made my account and now, nothing?”
- “Is anyone else getting access denied.”
- “I’ve tried to apply twice and get an error message after submitting.”
- “Womp womp site doesn’t work.”
- “You’re looking for smart folks but can’t run your website,”
But others called out the production team saying, “Do better.“
